Marcelle Lapicque: A forgotten pioneer in neuroscience

Lapicque was the first Black woman neuroscientist in Europe, new research suggests.

In the early 20th century, Marcelle Lapicque ran her own physiology lab at Sorbonne University and did groundbreaking work decoding how signals travel through the nervous system. Yet her legacy has been largely lost to history. That may be because of her gender—and her race, according to a paper published last year.
