Society for Neuroscience (SfN)

The Next Generation Award from the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) recognizes the achievement of chapter members of SfN for their outreach and science communication activities. The activities may include but are not limited to social media and classroom outreach, typically at the high school level. Nominations must be made by an officer of the local SfN chapter (e.g. the chapter representative). Nominees do not need to be an SfN member.

  • At the Predoctoral/Postdoctoral level: Nominees must be a current graduate (MS or PhD) or postdoctoral student; undergraduates are not eligible as individual nominees.
  • At the Junior Faculty level: Nominees must be scientists within 10 years of receiving an advanced degree.

The Awardee receives 750 USD to attend the SfN annual meeting and a 300 USD honorarium, plus complimentary registration. The recipient’s chapter receives a $2,000 chapter grant to be used to continue the chapter’s outreach efforts in the following year.

This is an annual award. The next nomination opens on March 23, 2026, and closes on May 7, 2026.
