The Wellcome Mental Health Data Prize by Wellcome Trust in partnership with Social Finance, is a UK-wide innovation programme supporting multidisciplinary teams to develop scalable digital tools that use existing mental health data to generate new insights and advance early intervention for anxiety, depression, and psychosis. The programme promotes collaboration across disciplines, meaningful integration of lived experience, and innovative use of established datasets to strengthen mental health science and practice. Supported tools may include:
- Data discovery or documentation tools
- Tools enabling or facilitating data analysis, including cleaning and manipulation
- Tools that communicate insights from mental health data to researchers, policymakers, practitioners, or wider audiences
Lead applicants must be based at an eligible UK organisation and hold a contract covering the full duration of the award, while co-applicants may be based worldwide (excluding mainland China) and affiliated with a relevant academic, healthcare, non-profit, commercial, or self-employed setting.
Selected teams will progress through 2 nine-month phases. During the Prototyping Phase, up to 6 teams will each receive funding of up to 100,000 GBP to develop working prototype tools. Following this stage, 3 teams with the most promising solutions will enter the Sustainability Phase, each receiving up to 300,000 GBP to further develop, scale, and sustain their tool.
