The FY2027 Research Support: Society and Individual Recommendation Slot from the Yamada Science Foundation funds basic research in the natural sciences.
This call has an emphasis on pioneering and original research, research carried out by new research groups, and research that is outstanding from an interdisciplinary and international perspective. Practice-oriented research, such as developing new medical treatments, is not eligible.
Applications are open to researchers affiliated with Japanese research institutions who can carry out the research independently as the project leader; status, career and age are not restricted.
Each application requires a recommendation from a designated academic society or from an individual affiliated with the foundation, and each applicant may submit only one application. The foundation also welcomes diversity and expects to fund at least three women researchers.
The foundation plans to fund about 18 awards of 1,500,000 to 3,000,000 JPY each, with a total budget of 40,000,000 JPY. Funds cannot be used for salaries, and overhead is not allowed. The funding period runs from the award date to the end of March of the following fiscal year.
Applications recommended by a foundation-affiliated individual close on February 28, 2027. The deadlines for society recommendations vary by society.
