The ALBA-Elsevier Award Lecture on Brain Sciences, established in 2021 by the ALBA Network, a division of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS), and Elsevier, recognizes research achievements of outstanding quality by a PhD- or MD-qualified scientist working at the frontiers of brain research.
The award highlights the recipient’s contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) issues in their career and supports regional diversity by honouring a scientist currently working in a country underrepresented among neuroscience publications and conferences.
The award is open to PhD- or MD-qualified active scientists of any origin working in a research institution in a country underrepresented among neuroscience publications and conferences. Candidates can self-nominate or be nominated by fellow neuroscientists. Those who have not run their own lab for at least five years are asked to wait and apply at a later stage.
The awardee receives 3,000 EUR in prize money. The 2027 and 2028 winners will each deliver a Special Lecture at the FENS Forum 2028 in Glasgow, Scotland, with registration waived and a 1,300 EUR lump sum provided towards travel and accommodation.
