The Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Doctoral Research Award: Fall 2026 Priority Announcement (Specific Research Areas) offers additional funding for highly rated doctoral applications that are relevant to specific research priority areas of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
Applications are open to students pursuing a PhD in a health-related field who show strong potential for future research achievement.
Four CIHR research priority areas are eligible for funding through this Priority Announcement:
- Bioinformatics and Computational Biology;
- First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and/or Urban Indigenous Health, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Sovereignty;
- Interdisciplinary Pillar 4 Research spanning neuroscience, mental health, and addiction; and
- Sex and Gender in Health Research.
The award provides up to 40,000 CAD per year for up to 3 years.
The application deadline is November 23, 2026.
