The Cure SMA Request for Proposals for Spinal Muscular Atrophy Research Projects invites research grant and postdoctoral fellowship applications to advance understanding of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) disease pathology and support the development of new therapeutic strategies.
Both primary investigators and postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to apply. Postdoctoral applicants must include a letter of support from their supervisor. Proposals may address the molecular, biochemical, and genetic mechanisms regulating SMN expression or function; the pathophysiology of SMA using validated animal or cellular models; early proof-of-concept therapeutic approaches; or the generation of novel research tools such as models, assays, or biomarkers for SMA.
Applications are accepted for one or two years of funding, with a maximum of 75,000 USD per year and a total award of up to 150,000 USD, including 8% overhead. Cure SMA anticipates awarding 1,000,000 USD in total funding across 6-7 grants.
Applications close on September 4, 2026.
