The Eric Kandel Young Neuroscientists Prize from the Gemeinnützige Hertie-Stiftung and FENS recognizes the work of outstanding young scientists in any field of neuroscience and helps advance their careers as researchers.

Applications are open to  European neuroscientists under the age of 40, who have demonstrated outstanding and independent scientific creativity and productivity, as documented by multiple and excellent publications in leading scientific journals.

Candidates must be nominated by the head of their university/research institute or by an internationally renowned neuroscientist. Self-nomination is not possible.

The prize awards 50,000 EUR in prize money for personal use, a research budget of 50,000 EUR for scientific cooperation (partnership or mentoring), and a lecture at the 2026 FENS Forum in Barcelona, Spain.

 The prize is awarded every two years and the next applications close on July 24, 2025.
