Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Program (YIP) from the Office of Naval Research, part of the Department of War, USA, supports academic scientists and engineers in their first or second full-time tenure-track or tenure-track-equivalent appointment who show exceptional promise for creative basic or applied research. Proposals must address research areas of interest to the Department of the Navy’s science and technology program.
Applications are open to USA institutions of higher education that award degrees in science, engineering, or mathematics, and to USA non-profit organizations operating primarily for scientific and educational services. The principal investigator must be a US citizen, national, or permanent resident who received a PhD or equivalent degree on or after January 1, 2019. Tenured faculty and prior YIP recipients are not eligible.
Typical awards are 750,000 USD over a 36-month period of performance, and applicants may request up to 250,000 USD for each 12-month interval.
