The Mathers Grant Awards Program from The G. Harold and Leila Y. Mathers Foundation supports bold, basic scientific research with transformative potential to improve human health, funding early-stage discoveries in fields such as immunology, cancer biology, genetics, genomics, neuroscience, and related life sciences that lay the groundwork for future medical breakthroughs.

Eligibility: Medical research universities and other nonprofit scientific institutions based in the United States may apply. Institutional nomination and registration are required at least two weeks before the Letter of Inquiry deadline, and up to three institute-nominated Letters of Inquiry may be submitted per cycle.

The program provides 600,000 to 700,000 USD over three years, inclusive of up to 10% indirect costs.

For the Fall 2026 cycle, the Letter of Inquiry is due July 31, 2026, and, if invited, the formal proposal is due September 18, 2026.
