The PhD Fellowship Fundamental Research, provided by the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO), offers an exciting opportunity for young scientists to pursue their own stimulating and innovating PhD projects. The research project may be in the following fundamental research areas:

  • Biological Sciences
  • Humanities
  • Social Sciences
  • Medical Sciences
  • Science and Technology
  • Interdisciplinary research
  • International collaboration

Applicants must be affiliated with a university in the Flemish Community, the Evangelical Theological Faculty in Leuven, or the Faculty of Protestant Theology in Brussels. At the start of the fellowship, candidates must hold a degree equivalent to at least a Master’s degree awarded by the competent institutions of one of the countries of the EEA or Switzerland. Candidates with a degree certificate issued outside the EEA and Switzerland can have their degree declared equivalent to the Flemish Master’s level by NARIC. Eligible candidates must have obtained their Master’s degree or equivalent no later than three years before the final submission date of the call.

A fellowship of 2,460 EUR/month is provided, along with a bench fee of 3,720 EUR/year, for a duration of 4 years.
