The Population and systems medicine: new investigator: responsive mode funding program from the Medical Research Council (MRC) supports research projects focused on population and systems medicine. Applicants must be early-career researches making the transition to become independent investigators. Applicants must be a researcher employed by a research organisation eligible to apply for Medical Research Council (MRC) funding. Proposed projects may be in the following areas:

  • cardiovascular
  • respiratory
  • musculoskeletal
  • gastroenterology
  • renal medicine and liver function
  • endocrinology and reproductive health
  • maternal health and the early origins of health and disease
  • nutrition, metabolic regulation, diabetes and obesity
  • trauma, acute medicine and surgery
  • inflammation in relation to disease processes and the resolution of the inflammatory response
  • medical sociology
  • lifestyle, socio-economic and behavioural impacts on health
  • health inequalities
  • population and disease related cohorts

There is no limit to the funding budget, the program typically provides around 1 million GBP for up to 3 years.
