International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG)

The Request for Applications for Research on Lottery Gambling and Responsible Gambling from the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG) supports research that can be translated into lottery responsible gambling practices, including but not limited to player education, risk mitigation, program design, staff training, policy development, and referral to support or treatment services. Lottery products differ from other forms of gambling in structure, pace, and player perception, requiring tailored approaches to responsible gambling. Research projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible gambling design and implementation for lottery play, including the development and evaluation of interventions, tools, and policies;
  • Player behavior, risk, and protection among lottery players, including perceptions of risk and odds, and comparisons with other forms of gambling or non-gambling populations;
  • Messaging, advertising, and player communication in lottery environments, including the effectiveness and influence of responsible gambling messaging across formats and contexts;
  • Use of technologies in lottery play, including digital platforms, data-driven approaches, and innovation in responsible gambling tools and player engagement.

The Principal Investigator (PI) must have a PhD, MD or other comparable terminal degree. Investigators who are not active PIs or Co-PIs or Co-Is on existing ICRG grants are strongly encouraged to apply. Domestic or international, public or private, non-profit or for-profit organizations are eligible to apply.

The funding provides up to 75,000 USD in direct costs and up to 25% of direct costs in Facilities & Administration or indirect costs, not to exceed 187,500 USD total.
