The Unterstützung für Wissenschaftskommunikation funding option from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) supports public communication of the work and findings of DFG-funded research projects, strengthening societal understanding of science and trust in it. The DFG has renewed this long-standing opportunity with a flat-rate option and additional proposals.
The flat rate can be requested in Sachbeihilfe (Research Grants) and Emmy Noether proposals. Supplementary proposals can be submitted within ongoing DFG-funded research projects, no later than 12 months before the project ends. In collaborative programmes such as Collaborative Research Centres, Priority Programmes and Research Units, entire subprojects for science communication can still be requested. Funding is only possible in connection with a scientific project funded by the DFG.
Applicants can request a flat rate of 1,000 EUR per funding year for a freely designed science communication activity. More costly activities can be requested directly with a detailed justification.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
