The apurahoja from the Aivosäätiö (Finnish Brain Foundation) support scientific research into brain and nervous system diseases or closely related conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders, child and adolescent psychiatry, developmental disability, neurology, autism, and ALS research.
The application is open to PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, and individual researchers based in Finland. If full research leave is not possible, research may be combined with clinical, teaching, or other work as long as the research proceeds as planned.
Grant amounts historically range between 2,000 EUR and 15,000 EUR. Awarded grants must be used within 3 years from the date awarded. Grants to be awarded in 2026 by topic and fund:
- Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders €175,000
- Child and adolescent psychiatry including ADHD €55,000
- Neurology €50,000
- Developmental disability research €50,000
- ALS research €5,000
- Autism research €10,000
