The NEXT – Rethink Neurodegeneration! funding from the Volkswagen Foundation supports basic science interdisciplinary research teams to rethink established paradigms and explore new paths in dementia-causing neurodegeneration. The aim is to drive transformative progress and lay the basis for future preventive and therapeutic breakthroughs. The PI must be affiliated with a German university or research institution. Researchers from international institutions can participate as Co-PIs.
The award provides up to 2 million EUR, including up to 10% of overheads, over a funding period of up to 5 years.
Short proposals are due August 28, 2025. Invitations to submit full proposals are expected for the first quarter of 2026.
