Gily Ginosar is a postdoctoral fellow at New York University and a guest researcher at the Flatiron Institute Center of Computational Neuroscience. She is a Junior Fellow of the Society of Simons Fellows, working in the groups of Dan Sanes, David Schneider and Alex Williams. She studies mammalian vocal communication using families of freely behaving Mongolian gerbils as they naturally communicate.
Ginosar earned her B.Sc. in physics and cognitive science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in brain science from the Weizmann Institute of Science under Nachum Ulanovsky, where she conducted wireless electrophysiological recordings from freely flying bats and discovered that grid cells encoding 3D space have a local rather than global structure (Nature, 2021). Her doctoral work was recognized with the Capranica Prize from the International Society for Neuroethology and the Nemko Prize from the Society for Neuroscience.
